Thursday night I attended the Board of Assessors meeting in Woodbine. Earlier in February of this year a group of concerned citizens voiced their outrage about early reports of reassessments of properties in Camden County. This group was characterized by the Tax Assessors Office as a “small group of disgruntled taxpayers”. As of September 17, 2009, 5,165 appeals have been filed suggesting that the ability of the Tax Assessors Office to estimate just how many folks are very disgruntled may be similar to their ability to estimate the value of property in Camden County.
Total Number of Appeals 5165 $349,317,073
Appeals in “Active” Status 4805
Appeals in “21day” Status 350 $32,410,388
Appeals in Binding Arbitration 10
K-Map Appeals 179 3%
S-Map Appeals 436 8%
W-Map Appeals 69 1%
Total Number of Assessment Notices Sent 30,006

Competitive Offerings Research For Laurel Island (PDF)
This is a study done by the Parker Group (http://www.parkerassociates.com)
To attempt to summarize this report I pulled the following paragraph out of the property impact section of the report:
While developments examined include some of the most highly-amenitized
coastal properties in the eastern United States, development plans for Laurel
Island include nearly every marquee amenity observed in the competitive
marketplace. This, coupled with a diverse mix of residential products,
constitutes a significant advantage over most developments examined
